Some years ago Terry Heaton wrote a post about a local TV meteorologist who had been fired from her station, and started her own local weather website. One of Heaton’s points from the article was that broadcasters should pay attention to the fact that they were promoting talent in a specific market, and giving them specific skills. The caution was that the name recognition and the skill set could be used in the future as a 2×4 with which to beat the broadcaster.
