Casual Day

I like the WeatherBug app for the iPhone, mainly because of the easy access to towercams.  But the video section caught my eye over the weekend.

Jeans and a pretty casual shirt.  Is this okay?  Now, clearly the response should be, “who cares”, but the question is interesting.  We certainly couldn’t get away with this on TV…could we?  Do the 20-somethings who live on their computers and devices prefer this casual look?  One of the local TV critics in my market always seems to make some hay out of who is in shirt sleeves and who isn’t during severe weather.

Thoughts?  Or, who cares?

A few years back I was pushed into emergency service as I was getting ready to leave the office, and dress in a polo shirt and nice pants. The ND was pissed even though the alternative was no weatherman at all. I did get two emails from viewers who thought the casual look was better on TV…

Maybe suits and ties aren’t as mandatory as common thinking insists? ESPECIALLY with the under 40 crowd.

That guy gets my vote, he looks like he might actually go outside the studio and make a “real” weather observation. I see nothing wrong with dressing casually, as a matter of fact, I think someone who is dressed comfortably may actually do a better job at whatever they are doing.
