Last year I was involved in some meetings dealing with mobile strategy for an “old media” company. The company presence had been established on phones and evaluation continued and plans were being made for some upgrades. One of the fundamentals I suggested was a better data source, one that would be unique in the market. There was some interest…and then, crickets.
A couple months later there had been little progress on the evolution of the phone platforms and I had a chance to visit with the company again. “Those plans were put on hold in favor of development on the iPad app.”, was what I was told.
The same automated data is the same on an iPhone and an Android phone and an iPad and a website and a widget…and everyone else in the market has it.
Get that iPad app out there, just don’t be surprised if people yawn at the contents.
