Wait Or Be First

Interesting article on Lost Remote today, looking at Tumblr.

I’m particularly interested in some of the demographics:

Tumblr’s core audience is women 18 to 34 years old, a cherished demographic among many TV advertisers. Women 35-49 years-old follow close behind.

Wait.  Is it possible that there is a large demographic, desired by advertisers, that we have missed.  No, that is crazy talk.  Well, wait again.  In the early days of the web broadcasters generally took a wait and see attitude.  Some of their data was ported to the web but it seemed the general feeling was “we are bigger than this and don’t need to fool with it.”

Today, much of the online weather content is automated.  Probably not worth the effort.  Right?

Twitter was launched in 2006.  When did your station get there (not you, the station)?

There will be more platforms like Tumblr.  Some will thrive, others will fail.  As platforms come and go…there will always be a need for good content.  Perhaps we could help our users create some of it.
