The person responsible for scheduling speeches at a local television station was briefing a new hire on the policies of visiting schools and community groups.
“You don’t have to travel more than one hour from your starting location.”
“The group you are speaking to needs to be larger than (some random number).”
“No speeches before or after certain times of the day.”
As the list of restrictions (placed on the group requesting the speech) grew longer, the most stunning comment was overheard. “If a group is not willing to work with you…they obviously don’t really want you to come.”
I can imagine a similar sentence being spoken at a rural school in the market. “I guess they don’t really want us to watch their station.”
The critical difference is this. The school will find something else for those students to do for an hour. The local newscast…..is still losing viewers.
