And the reason is…

questionI’ve been watching some interesting stories of consulting and social media lately and thought I would share two of them.

One local meteorologist, on mandate from a consultant, now gets a visit from the news director a few minutes before the evening news to run through the weather show.  This dicate will understandably ruffle the feathers of most of the readers of this blog.

Another local met has been instructed not to interact with the competition in the market on social media.

These types of events are going to continue, and likely become more frequent.  I would suggest, when your turn comes, to politely ask “Why?”.  Yes, there will be a few moments of uncomfortable fumbling for an answer, but this is the age of two-way, not top-down, communication.  There is a reason for these type of mandates.  If the reason is good, you will learn something.  If the logic is not so good, hearing it out loud might just help both of you.

Then share it.
