Planet Money from NPR is a pretty interesting show. The most recent episode (actually a rerun) is worth a listen.
I’ve mentioned the landmark book The Innovator’s Dilemma a few times and was singing the praises of Clayton Christensen yesterday. If you haven’t read the book yet (shame on you), it explains how and why large established industries have trouble dealing with disruptive innovations. I’m currently drinking in The Innovator’s Solution and both books, without ever mentioning broadcasting, describe, to the letter, what our business is going through.
Can Lincoln Be Cool Again? from Planet Money tells the story of how Audi revived itself as a luxury automobile brand and how Lincoln is trying to replicate that success. I really like these kinds of stories because I look at them through TV weatherman colored glasses and try to apply the lessons to our little corner of the world. Truth be told, it can be really frustrating, and really helpful at the same time.
