A very short part of a discussion on This Week in Google (TWiG) piqued my curiosity.
Medium is a blogging platform created by two of the Twitter founders, “with the idea of encouraging existing Twitter users to create longer posts than the 140-character standard of that service.” (Wikipedia).
What intrigued me about what Jeff Jarvis said is the idea that he approaches what he is going to write differently based on the platform on which he writing. Somehow Medium creates a more thoughtful tone. Jarvis is well known for not holding back in his sometimes bombastic rants on Twitter, his blog and TWiG.
That got me thinking about the comments on Facebook and your blog. There has been a great deal of angst on the backchannels about some of the rude, condescending and sometimes hateful comments. One of the main questions that arises is, “should I ban the offenders?”
Two interesting questions going forward. Has Facebook set a tone? Can you set your own tone within that platform?
